That is an air rifle, recoil would be "negligible".

It's an air rifle, but even with that a friend managed to hurt his eye badly. Recoil is really really weak but you don't need much to harm your eye with a metal scope.
yeh, Air Rifle for sure. And I've seen video of infantry in Iraq holding their weapons the same way...M-16's anyway. Wouldn't do this with 30-06 or 50 cal though.

First, who said she's firing it? Notice her finger isn't on the trigger. Second, it's appears to be either a .22 or pellet gun, neither would have a perceptible recoil so even if fired it wouldn't hurt her eye. The danger if she fires it is at the other end cause she not seeing anything through that scope with her eye so close.

I have a gun like that. It is a Chinese-made break action air rifle. No recoil. You could safely shoot it like she is without harm.

I think the bigger question is "how can she even see though the scope that close?" I does look like a pretty cheap scope, but still... they are designed to be sighted through from several inches away. Of course, any good scope actually has an "eye relief" adjustment.
I once had a nice bruise for several days after shooting my dad's .270, since he likes to get tight in on the scope while deer hunting. It had a bit more recoil than my .243 and (despite having the butt tight against my shoulder) I ended up with a nice "scope imprint" on my eyebrow and some serious pain for a while.
It's a BB gun.
