McDonald's Happy Meal Don’t Age Even After 137 Days

New York based artist Sally Davies has been photographing one McDonald’s burger-and-fries Happy Meal, that she bought on April 10, 2010, every day for the last 137 days. Other than a little patty shrinkage, the burger look essentially the same.

Davies plans to keep going with the project until something happens, but she has no idea what she is getting into. A few years ago, a twelve-year-old McDonald's burger surfaced that looked shockingly well-preserved. Again, earlier this year, a blogger left a McDonald Happy Meal exposed for a year and found it mostly unchanged. Sally Davies experiment is the closest thing we’ve seen to transparent scientific documentation on the subject, and provides terrifying evidence that McDonald’s burgers are worst possible thing you can put in your body.

According to McDonald’s website, the only ingredients in the McDonald’s beef patty are “100% pure USDA inspected beef; no fillers, no extenders. Prepared with grill seasoning (salt, black pepper).” The buns do, however, contain the preservatives sodium and calcium propionate, and McDonald’s French fries contain citric acid and tert-Butylhydroquinone as preservatives. However, we do believe, that there are some terrible preservatives in that thing that could keep it so well preserved for years.

There are other evidences of McDonald’s indestructible burgers. University of Nottingham chemistry professor Martyn Poliakoff dunk the whole thing in a vat of concentrated hydrochloric acid. Hydrochloric acid, as you must know, contains in every person’s stomach and helps in breaking down of the food molecules. The hydrochloric acid in the stomach is very diluted. But see what happens when you put the burger in concentrated hydrochloric acid.

  1. It must have taken an incredible amount of restraint to not eat the burger, you fat cow.

  2. Surely you can't mean that McDonald's food is the "worst possible thing you can put in your body" because it seems to contain the secret to living forever!

  3. I ate McDonalds today! :(

  4. And how would you expect a 'good food' to appear after 200 days? Should it have vaporised, or merely grown fungus?

  5. It's dehydrated not some kind of evil plastic food people. I don't even like Macca's but there is actually NO difference between their meals and any other food. There is no mould on the burger for the reason that it hasn't been exposed to moisture - duh. You could do that with anything. Tone down the scandal and hysteria and please apply some science ok.

  6. That is scary... doesn't even react like food should...

  7. Hey, You gonna eat that?

  8. As the post at Oct. 17th, 2010 pointed out, it's just dehydrated. I could do the same thing with fresh ground beef from the market. Just make sure the patty I make is just as thin, cook it to well done so there's little or no mositure, and voila..I've made a hamburger patty I could preserve in the same way.

As an aside, I wonder why people aren't freaking out about beef jerky. Isn't it ALSO dehydrated meat? Now I don't advocate eating that hamburger in this blog, but I think if people are going to call this burger somehow unnatural, they need to do so with beef jerky. :P

  10. McDonald bashing is becoming a national hobby... Of all fast-food chains, Mc D's has the highest standards in food quality and cleanliness. This whole "experiment" (if it can be called that) is worthless if there is no control to compare. Dehydration is an age-old technique for preserving food and this article only confirms that.

That video is utterly useless and proves nothing whatsoever.. hydrocloric acid is only one of many different compounds involved in digestion. Besides, it seems to me like the the acid actually did a fine job at breaking down that burger

  12. This just shows how ignorant Americans can be. You guys just love your MCDONALD'S and x-large coke! Who cares whats in it! It taste good right!! I feed it to my kids all the time so they can get extra fat and stay home all day Instead of play outside and eventually end up with diabetes! It might give us cancer in the long run but hey Yolo!! Plus I fed my family of 5 with just 5 bucks! You can't get that kind of a deal when you eat healthy real food. yummmm

  13. just stop eating mc Donald's food it makes you sick and causes black goop to form in your stomach and the burger takes three whole days to dissolve in your stomach and when it finally dissolves there a trace of black goop in your system
