Miss Universe 2011 National Costumes

The national costume contest is arguably the most colorful part of the Miss Universe pageant. This annual parade of sartorial ridiculousness is the most amusing to watch too. And how can we leave out something like that from Amusing Planet?

This year at the 60th anniversary of the Miss Universe pageant, 89 contestants from as many countries are presently fighting out with each other for the coveted crown, in Sao Paulo, Brazil. I have heard that this is highest number of participants ever, surpassing the previous record of 86 contestants in 2006.

Because there are so many pictures, this will be a thumbnail gallery. Click on the thumbnails to enlarge. And when you are done with this gallery, don’t forget to checkout the previous year’s national costumes contest.

  1. I help't help checking them out but I hate beauty pageants. Why? Because I got desillutioned: it is NOT what people think it is at all!!! I only did 2 but it's all the same deal: there's a large fee to participate, we pay for our own gowns, jewelry, costumes, beauty products, and our family pays for their airfares and rooms to attend, and HAS TO BUY TICKETS TO ATTEND!!!! Then, the girls smile to your face but screw you behind your back!!! Don't ever leave your stuff unattended! It's NOT the most beautiful girls who sign up, just the ones with enough $!!! About 90% of the girls have cellulite they hide by wrapping their thighs at night for 2-3 days b4 the show. They look very plain w/o all the added stuff: make-up by the pound, hairpieces, padding, tape in the right places, etc... If you happen to not need to trim out, the other girls act catty with you! I had a 6-pack, thigh muscles, an ass that didn't need to be padded and a 21 in. waist, so what did they attack? My breasts! Not big enough according to them. I told the girls: "your brother thinks they're great!". LOL I remember 1 girl who had been beaten at the national level. She reappeared representing another country, and told me her mother had that country's citizenship. Then, I found out that she was approached by organizers when their planned national winner couldn't come up with the entrance fee in time!!! It's all a out $$$$!!! And we the girls ARE financially exploited! While they sell the TV rights for millions... Glad I posted this...

  2. Adding to my comment: an example of what I mentioned ab thighs is Miss Brazil above. The curved lit area on her leg shows she's wearing thick, cellulite-hiding stockings. WHY???? There are so many gorgeous girls in Brazil with no fat!!!! Because unlike her, they don't have the $$$ to enter and buys all the stuff you need!!!! The organizers SHOULD wave fees and pay for our stuff. Then, you guys would REALLY see some beautiful girls!!!!!
