Thousands Perform Yoga at Times Square in New York

Jun 26, 2012 0 comments

Every year on the Solstice, Times Square in New York hosts a massive yoga demonstration that fills the street and stretches for at least three blocks. Thousands of yoga devotees withstood soaring temperatures on June 20 as they tried to find tranquility in Times Square.

The normally chaotic neighborhood was filled with men and women in yoga clothing, lying on mats and towels during a lunchtime class. Wiping sweat from their brows or keeping out the rays with sunglasses, the participants did downward dogs and tree poses as the mercury soared to 92 degrees in Manhattan.

Some 1,500 yoga mats were distributed free for the occasion, and pedestrian spaces in New York’s most frenetic crossroads were completely covered.
