Although wave photography is an established genre of photography, almost all snappers are shooting in the water, inside the barrel. Australian photographer Deb Morris goes beyond photographing the average wave by focusing on the subtle ripples caused by tidal waves that are no higher than 3 to 30 cm. She has dubbed these macro images “micro wave photography”.
It took about six months of trial and error before she honed her technique to perfection. The results are stunning, beautiful images of waves that capture both the break and the peak of the wave, and even droplets falling off its tip just as it is about to break.
“I live dangerously with unprotected gear because I deliberately don’t use water housing,” says Morris, who wades out about a metre into the surf, and relies on her quick reflexes to keep her gear safe.
“This has forced me to get different angles, because I have to remain outside the wave.”

I think she is watermarking for copyright reasons...
ReplyDeleteI know that it is done for copyright reasons but I think it sort of ruins the picture in this case. Great photos. Pity about the giant ugly signature.
