Great looking sculptures. Good thing about trees, you can re-grow them. They're a great regenerative resource. We use lots of them to print business cards. Most of our cards are made with recycled paper though. So I guess we're using the same trees over and over.

i wonder how she manages to keep the sharpened pencil tips from breaking. colored pencil lead has always seemed to me to be more prone to breaking than normal pencil lead. i guess you'd have to handle them very carefully....

These are impressive shows of creativity, talent and patients. I am respectful of "eco-friendly" but really most art uses natural resources. No one I know or like has ever thought the Mona Lisa or La Grande Jatt to be horrible wastes of resources.

Hey pissed off guy, I love trees too, but would you call any sculptor who uses wood a moron, or the fact that there are so many pencils in each one got you all mad. These pencils are probably made out of cheap wood that is grown and replenished for uses such as pencils. Go yell at the sculptors that use rare rain forest trees, or rich bastards who use them for their houses, thats what causes deforestation.

I'm all about saving the trees, but I wouldn't call this a waste of natural resources. If anything this is an incredible medium of art because (heaven forbid) these pieces should ever end up in a land fill, they'd biodegrade a hell of a lot better than if they had been sculpted out of iron or some other metal.

Besides, it's not like this artist went and cut down trees themselves purposely for this project. These colored pencils had already been produced, so they might as well be put to good use. Plus, the artist CHOSE wooden colored pencils over some other product made of plastic or marble or whatever else to sculpt with, which I think was a wise decision.
