Date Stamp Paintings by Federico Pietrella

Sep 19, 2012 0 comments

Berlin based Italian artist Federico Pietrella creates amazing portraits by stamping dates on a canvas. The artist layers ink dates in varying proximity and thickness to create gradients that is necessary to bring out a scene. When viewed from a distance or with squinted eyes, the stamps blend together to reveal an impressive portrait or painting. In his enormous ink artworks Pietrella always stamps the current date, thus each of his pieces contains a clear timeline of the days he worked on it. Each picture takes 1-2 months to complete and you can actually tell which part of the artwork was done on which day from the stamps.

Pietrella has been practicing this date stamp art for the past 15 years and has made a comfortable living off of it with each piece selling for around 20,000 Euros.
