Close-Up Pictures of Corals by Felix Salazar

Felix Salazar, a photographer and composer based on LA, offers us a closer look at the dazzling bright colors and texture of corals through pictures he took in salt aquariums.

Corals are marine animals typically living in compact colonies in tropical oceans. They secrete calcium carbonate to form a hard skeleton, deposits of which form large underwater islands called coral reefs such as the enormous Great Barrier Reef off the coast of Queensland, Australia. Reefs are extremely diverse marine ecosystems hosting over 4,000 species of fish, massive numbers of cnidaria, mollusks, crustacea, and many other animals.
