The White Desert of Egypt

About 45 km north of Farafra, the White Desert begins. It’s truly a white desert in clear contrast with the yellow desert elsewhere, something which you will not believe before seeing with your own eyes. At night, and many of the organized trips out here include overnight stay out in the desert. The white desert is best viewed at sunrise or sunset, in the light of a full moon, which gives the landscape an eerie Arctic appearance.

From a distance this might look like a pile logs left behind by some lumberjacks. Upon approaching closer you can make out that it’s actually a small cottage.

The Beautiful Wooden Churches of North Russia

These beautiful but depleted, centuries old wooden churches were captured through the lenses by Richard Davies. Richard was inspired by the works of Ivan Yakovlevich Bilibin (1876 - 1942) a well known artist, stage designer and illustrator of Russian Folk Tales, who drew attention to the condition of the wooden churches through a series of photographs published in a 1904 article in the World of Art Magazine.

The Scotch Off the Roll Tape Sculpture Contest is an unusual competition of sculptures made out of sticky tapes. The scultures in this gallery are made by by sticking bits of tape together or by wrapping them around objects which are then removed from the piece. The models had to be made using Scotch packaging tape and the winning entry will receive $5000. Other materials, such as wire, cardboard and paint, can make up to ten per cent of the model if used to support or enhance it.

Alice in Wonderland Original Manuscript

The original manuscript of Lewis Carroll, the pen-name of Charles Dodgson, is one of the British Library's best - loved treasures. Dodgson was fond of children and became friends with Lorina, Alice and Edith Liddell, the young daughters of the Dean of his college, Christ Church. One summer's day in 1862 he entertained them on a boat trip with a story of Alice's adventures in a magical world entered through a rabbit-hole. The ten-year-old Alice was so entranced that she begged him to write it down for her. It took him some time to write out the tale - in a tiny, neat hand - and complete the 37 illustrations. Alice finally received the 90-page book, dedicated to 'a dear child, in memory of a summer day', in November 1864.

In the city of Taichung, Taiwan you’ll find an environmental-friendly themed restaurant where everything including dining room furniture, bookcases, sofas, chairs and even dining tables are made out of recycled cardboard. Incredibly Photorealistic Paintings By Alyssa Monks

I love photorealism in paintings. We have seen some great woks by Eric Zener, Rob Hefferan, Linda Huber, Steve McGhee, Craig Tracy, and some amazing vector arts by various artists. Alyssa Monks works fall under the same category. Here are some brilliant oil-on-canvas paintings by this New York based artist.

World’s Tallest Filing Cabinet

The world’s tallest filing cabinet is not located in some office, but in a field of weeds on the southwest edge of Burlington, in the state of Vermont in USA. It’s actually a stack of 38 filing cabinets welded together, one atop another. Most of the drawers are empty, but some of them contains auto parts made from shredding an MG Midget sports car, steamrolling the fragments, then cataloguing and storing each fragment with a label like an auto parts shop. Just plain crazy.
