Emergency Bra Doubles as a Gas Mask

Oct 1, 2010 5 comments

Dr. Elena Bodnar, whose inspiration comes in part from having witnessed as a young physician the devastating effects of the Chernobyl nuclear plant disaster in 1986, has created an Emergency Bra which is also a gas mask. Once removed, it separates into two masks which, when placed over the nose and mouth, filter out particles.

Dr. Elena Bodnar won an Ignoble Award for the invention last year, an annual tribute to scientific research that on the surface seems goofy but is often surprisingly practical. Bodnar emergency bra is now available for purchase online for just $29.95.

Bodnar explained when accepting the award:

Ladies and gentlemen, isn't that wonderful that women have two breasts, not just one? We can save not only our own life, but also the life of a man of our choice next to us.

Bodnar is also working on a "counterpart device for men" though the precise shape it will take has yet to be revealed.

  2. So apparently, only women with small breasts deserve an emergency gas mask - thanks. (size range is 32-44 B-D)

As a 28J, I'll just have to die then?

I mean it's a nice idea, but that size range is ridiculously small - too small to cover a huge number or women (if not most women)

  3. Ah yes - size range 32-44 B-D - I guess I, along with many other women (possibly most women) will just have to die then

It's a nice idea, but the size range is too pathetic to be practical - as a 28J, there's just no way I could wear those as anything other than a gas mask

And that's along with anyone in the following sizes

Anything in a 30 band or below (which is at least 45 sizes) then 32-44 A, DD, E, F, G, GG, H, HH, J, JJ, K, KK and beyond plus anything above a 44 band.

Even if you say that hardly any women are a 44+ or 30 or less (which just isn't true) then it's still missing at LEAST 84 sizes in the 32-44 range

So... not really for everyone is it...

  4. I can assure you that I'll have more use for that bra holding up my boobs than having it cover my face in a case of a nuclear disaster. VERY impractical for me. But then....I DO live in NYC.

  5. Ahhh, it is great to live in an age where people become outraged over the most insignificant things...in this case a product that is of very little practical value.
Maria...spare us your outrage. If this product actually sold well, the sizes would follow...supply meets demand...obviously no demand to warrant dozens upon dozens of sizes....
If you think this adds any practical value to your life, Do yourself a favor and buy a gas mask....I guarantee it will do a much better job than this
